Monochromatic Picasso Portraits

Students learned how to make tints and shades of one color using white and black.  We started this lesson with a blind contour self portrait drawing.  Some students chose to use the blind contour for the monochromatic painting to have a more abstract style work of art.

4th grade is learning about Pablo Picasso and his various styles of painting and artwork.  We focused in on his blue period and cubism.  We discussed how color represent a feeling or mood. Today students learned how to create different values of one color using tint and shade. They will choose one color to create a monochromatic cubist style portrait. 4th grade students studied the art of Pablo Picasso. They learned about his cubist and blue period paintings. They also learned how to paint a monochromatic painting using value.  They created some stellar masterpieces. Many are now hanging in our school gallery hallways.
