5th grade life cycle clay tile mural with visiting artist

5th grade students from the 2012-2013 class worked with visiting artist Ileana Barbou to create a public art piece for Crest View Elementary.  The 5th grade classes each created a relief clay tile piece inspired by the theme of life cycles.  Students learned new techniques while also integrated their classroom studies of plant life cycles.

3rd grade Sumi-e Painting and ceramics project



3rd grade learned about the Japanese art form of painting called Sumi-e. They practiced brush strokes using bamboo brushes called a "fude."  Students created an ink bowl and brush holder inspired by the traditional cobalt painted Asian pottery.

Kindergarten pinch pots

We learned about clay and where it comes from and how we fire it in an electric kiln.  We also talked about glazing and how it serves a function as well as an aesthetic. Here are some photos of our glazed pots ready to be fired in the kiln.
