Kindergarten paints Rainbow Fish!

In art class we read the book Rainbow Fish. We talked about the different shapes that make up  a fish.  We discussed how the scales are formed on some fish.  Students drew their own Rainbow Fish, they added color with oil pastels and then they used watercolor paint for the ocean, using a resist technique.  Finally each student added their shiny scale.

1st grade landscape collages

Friday's 1st grade started this project and most finished. We reviewed collage and talked about landforms in our front range landscape. Students tore paper into shapes to create a landscape of their own. They learned about background, middle ground and foreground. Their goal was to create a landscape with at least 3 different layers of landforms.

1st grade printmaking!

First grade was introduced to printmaking using foam board.  We focused on line and pattern to create interesting prints. Students learned a lot by trial and error. Most students are beginning to understand how much paint to add to the brayer and then onto their foam board to make a good print. These students will build upon this skill in future years when we revisit printmaking.

Glazed and Fired Kindergarten Pinch Pots!

So impressed with these kids' pinch pots.  Such amazing talent both in forming the pot and painting  pattern + design.
