This was a really fun project that integrated recycling, literacy, photography, sewing, sculpture and technology to create 3D creatures. Students learned various sewing stitches and they also learned how to sew on a button. Kids started by drawing thumbnail sketches and chose on creature to transform into a 3D work of art. They used stray socks and found buttons to be environmentally friendly. Once students finished sewing they wrote a bio about their stray sock creature and then photographed it in a location of their choice. Below are some examples from Ms Sandstrom's class.

My wild Sock’s name in Quacky. Her favorite food to eat is Shrimp tempura. She was born in Jamaica in a palm tree right next to the ocean. Her hobby is to shop at the mall with her other duck friends.
She is nice to everybody but people that tell her what to do. She is over all one of the smartest and most athletic ducks in the U.S.A. She was prom queen duck in high school and is now very famous for her grey stripes. Her best friend is cosmo the dinosaur and rides in her pink limbo to Taylor swift and Justin Beiber concerts. Split-o was born his Mother and father left him in a tree like all parent trolls due. To pass time he performed on the streets of Cuba doing stunts and splits for big crowds. Life story: It all happened when their creator ( the amazing Alexandra Pavlidis ) thought to make a sock-o-dile.
My sock monkeys name is Marlin, he is special because of his personality. Marlins favorite food is banana bread with chocolate chips. He eats all day and night and the only thing he would eats is banana bread. Marlin is very active and brave because he saved Slappy his friend, and their friendship became even more powerful. Marlin lives with his friend in a treehouse on the cost of the rain forest.
